After a couple of disastrous cases, they’re given an ultimatum. Participate in training and therapy, or be split up. Instead of following orders though, they follow a lead! Do You Need to See Zootopia 1 to Enjoy Zootopia 2 Lessons?
Do you need to see the first movie to enjoy the second one? No! It’s helpful to see the first movie, so you’re familiar with the characters. But the second movie is very different than the first. They also do a small little rollback at the beginning of the movie to introduce the main characters and review the first movie, and that’s all you need. Two of the adults and a couple of the kids with us had never seen the first one and were able to enjoy the movie.

Is Zootopia 2 Safe to Watch?
This movie is definitely more calm than the first. In the first movie you have some dark and scary animal roaring scenes. There are a couple of jump scares, one that hilariously calls it out as a jump scare (the villain sheep from the first movie). Two separate bra reference jokes and a scene where the animals can go without pants and underwear. There is an animal called a Dik-dik that feels like it’s mentioned twenty times. And there are more uses of the words dumb, idiot, and you suck than I would like. But there are not dark and scary scenes. There is a little bit of fire, people getting stabbed with snake venom, a couple of cartoon deaths, minimal violence and drug references and a few small jump scares. The mayor comes on TV to say that the police chief is not dead, but says dead at first.

Is Zootopia 2 a Family Friendly Watch?
YES! We went with a 3 yr old and a grandparent and every age in between. They all generally enjoyed the movie! (The 3 yr old struggled with the length, but some of the adults did too- it’s LONG!) But this is the most family friendly film we have seen in the theater this year. One that would actually keep the attention of little and older viewers.
Overall, we really enjoyed this one. It wasn’t the most brilliant or unique animated movie. But that was never my expectation. I was hoping for a sequel that had the same heart, comedy, and unity element that the first movie had. And Zootopia 2 absolutely delivered that.

Lessons from Zootopia 2
- Doing the right thing is not always easy. And it doesn’t always feel like it matters.
- Everyone gets hurt in the end when someone, or a group of people, is seen as less than another group.
- Learning how to express our emotions, and our plans, to other people is really important.
- Bad things can be done legally. Bad people can do good things. And good people can make bad choices.
- Rich people in charge of large corporations rarely care about what happens to the people they crush. And corporate greed is way scarier than a jaguar in the end.
