Quick Summary of KPop Demon Hunter
Huntr/x is a kpop girl group made up by three girls: Rumi, Zoey, and Mira. Although they are very talented singers, the real reason for their music is to fight off demons. The more popular they are, the less likelihood of the Demon King Gwi-Ma will regain power and control. When a new boy band, the Saja Boys comes on the scene, Huntr/x is fighting for more than just popularity, they are fighting off evil.
KPop Demon Hunter Parent Review
KPop Demon Hunter is a fast-paced musical with great songs, relatable character, and some great life lessons. Rumi’s journey to self acceptance as she goes from hating her roots to embracing who she is was really powerful. There are many great songs (I was especially fond of Golden and Free) with a style that doesn’t usually get highlighted in kid’s movies. There is also quite a bit of high school drama/romance involved that is done with quite comedic effect.
The main plot points revolve around Rumi’s past and self-acceptance as well as Juni’s tragic backstory. Juni agreed to be a demon in order to help his family, but it ultimately cost him his family and now all he wants to do is to forget the guilt of this. This is his motivation throughout the movie and what makes him able to be manipulated by Gwi-Ma.
Overall, KPop Demon Hunter is a very fun movie with a fun message. The nature of the movie lends itself to a slightly older crowd due to the more high school drama/crushes and darker undertones. As long as you think your kids can handle that, this a great family watch.

Lessons from KPop Demon Hunter
Lesson #1: Embracing self-love is crucial to a healthy mindset
The main plotline revolves around Rumi’s story of feeling ashamed for being half-demon. She believes that until that part of her is removed, she simply isn’t fully worthy of love. By the end of the movie, for a myriad of reasons, Rumi has learned to accept who she is and begins to truly learn how to love herself.
Lesson #2: Music can create connections or division
This split is seen very obviously in the initial music of Huntr/x and the final song of the Saja Boys. Huntr/x’s goal is to connect and bring people together while Saja Boy’s goal was to co-erce and divide. Interestingly, during the writing and performance of the song “Takedown” you can see in real time the division being created.
Lesson #3: We can’t hide our true selves from close friends
This is one of the main lessons of this film. Rumi was surrounded by friends throughout most of the film, but due to her upbringing, she believed she couldn’t trust them with her secrets. The moment that she got to truly process this with them, a whole new level of their relationship was revealed.
