Quick Summary of the Pixar-Disney Movie Hoppers

Mabel has always had a soft spot for animals. And also has always had a knack for getting angry and breaking the rules. She is taught to manage her anger by relaxing in nature, specifically a glade. And when that glade is threatened by a highway expansion, she takes action. When she tracks down a beaver to save the ecosystem of the glade, Mabel happens on the Hoppers technology. Why try to find a beaver when you can become one yourself? Mabel’s adventure to save the glade is a disastrous adventure. And in the end she is reminded that humans and animals have to live in the same spaces. That anger by itself doesn’t fix things. And the audience is reminded how precarious, fragile, and important our ecosystems are- they are worth protecting. And that taking more and being greedy are harmful for everyone.

Parent Review of Hoppers (With Spoilers!)

We had a 3 and 7 year old with us and they both enjoyed the movie. There were two scenes that scared the 3 year old a little and one scene that the 7 year old didn’t like. In one scene there is a ‘nice’ shark that is lifted out of the ocean by birds to try to eat one of the main human characters. And she destroys a lot of things in her path on the way. If you’ve got a kiddo that is already afraid of sharks, this will not help. In another scene, following the shark one, there is a robot that looks human. And it gets shorted out, the face/mask is ripped off. The robot face underneath has intense eyes and is a little freaky.

There is an after credits, well mid credits, scene in Hoppers. The mask is played with by the animals after the credits. Think of the mask like a scary human like Halloween mask. The other kids in the theater were not bothered by either of these scenes.

And while the kids generally liked it, I heard more than one little get very bored in the middle of it. This is a pretty long movie and it is more drama focused than comedy focused. Very similar to Big Hero 6 but less emotionally charged and more politically charged.

If you have a kiddo who is constantly getting in trouble and misunderstood. This movie will provide some excellent discussion and talking points.
